Spiritual Warfare Teaching
December 28, 2018 at 2:05 pm | Posted in Spiritual Warfare | 1 CommentSpiritual Warfare
When we grow in relationship
With Jesus
and receive empowerment
from the Holy Spirit for ministry
we often experience
more intensive spiritual warfare.
When Jesus Christ was baptized
by John the baptist
the Holy Spirit
came upon Him in power.
Immediately afterwards
He went into the wilderness
and was tempted by the enemy.
So we, too may experience warfare
as we receive the Holy Spirit.
Danger of learning
about spiritual warfare:
1 become too interested
in the enemy
2 deny the existence
of the enemy.
So always always our focus is
On the victory we have
in Jesus Christ
and the guidance we receive
from the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ defeated the enemy
Colossians 2:15
And having disarmed
the powers and authorities,
he made a public spectacle
of them,
triumphing over them
by the cross.
Colossians 1:13
For he has rescued us
from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into
the kingdom of the Son he loves,
Ephesians 1:20-22
he exerted when he raised Christ
from the dead
and seated him at his right hand
in the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority,
power and dominion,
and every name that is invoked,
not only in the present age
but also in the one to come.
And God placed all things
under his feet
and appointed him to be head
over everything for the church,
1 Corinthians 2:8
None of the rulers of this age
understood it,
for if they had,
they would not have crucified
the Lord of glory.
To ready ourselves
For Spiritual Warfare
Abide in Jesus Christ
Walk in light and integrity
Put on the Armor of God
Prayer personally and corporately
Fellowship
Walking Holy Spirit fruit and gifts
Evidence of the enemy
Deception
Divisiveness
Distraction Diversion of purpose
Discouragement
Condemnation
Whether we have condemning
thoughts toward ourselves
or someone else
they are not of God.
Evidence of Jesus Christ
thru The Holy Spirit
Truth
Love
Purpose
Hope
Righteousness
Grace
Other evidence of the enemy
Will not say Jesus is God
1 John 4:2-4 This is how you
can recognize the Spirit of God:
Every spirit that acknowledges
that Jesus Christ has come
in the flesh is from God,
but every spirit that does not
acknowledge Jesus
is not from God.
This is the spirit of the antichrist,
which you have heard is coming,
even now is already in the world.
You, dear children, are from God
and have overcome them,
because the one who is in you
is greater than the one
who is in the world.
So the enemy is real
he has power to lie and tempt
How do we protect ourselves?
How to overcome oppression?
Protection
Daily put in the Armor of God
Which is representation of Christ
Ephesians 6:10-13
Finally, be strong in the Lord
and in His mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God,
so that you can take your stand
against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle
is not against flesh and blood,
but
against the rulers,
against the authorities,
against the powers of
this dark world and
against the spiritual forces
of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore
put on the full armor of God,
so that
when the day of evil comes,
you may be able
to stand your ground, and
after you have done everything,
to stand.
Ephesians 6:14-17
Stand firm then, with the belt of
truth buckled around your waist,
(For Jesus is the way the truth
and the life)
with the breastplate of
righteousness in place,
(For Jesus is our righteousness
and He dresses us in robes of
righteousness)
and with your feet fitted with the
readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace.
(For Jesus is our peace)
In addition to all this, take up the
shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows
of the evil one.
(for Jesus is the perfecter of our
faith)
Take the helmet of salvation and
(For Jesus is the rock of our
salvation)
the sword of the Spirit, which is
the Word of God.
(For Jesus is the Word become
flesh)
Directly ask for protection
David
Psalm 5:11 But let all
who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name
may rejoice in you.
Psalm 17:8 Keep me as the apple
of your eye; hide me
in the shadow of your wings
Psalm 32:7
You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble and surround me
with songs of deliverance.
Jesus asked for protection
For the disciples
John 17:11
I will remain in the world
no longer,
but they are still in the world,
and I am coming to you.
Holy Father, protect them by
the power of your name,
The name you gave me,
so that they may be one
as we are one.
John 17:15
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
Protect our thoughts
Take every thought captive
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though
we live in the world,
we do not wage war
as the world does.
The weapons we fight with
are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary,
they have divine power
to demolish strongholds.
We demolish arguments
and every pretension
that sets itself up against
the knowledge of God,
and
we take captive every thought
to make it obedient to Christ.
Take Authority given by Christ
To build the kingdom here
For evangelism
For ministry
For missions
Luke 9:1-2
When Jesus had called
the Twelve together,
he gave them
power and authority
to drive out all demons
and to cure diseases,
and he sent them out
to proclaim the kingdom of God.
To build the kingdom
Evangelism
Ministry
Missions
Luke 10:19, 20
I have given you authority
to trample
on snakes and scorpions and
to overcome all the power
of the enemy;
nothing will harm you.
However, do not rejoice
that the spirits submit to you,
but rejoice that your names
are written in heaven.”
Just before this the Bible says
Luke 10:2 He told them,
“The harvest is plentiful,
but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers
into his harvest field.
So the goal is always
building the kingdom.
Evangelism
Ministry
Missions
Given authority in
The Great Commission
Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them
and said,
“All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given
to me.
Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations,
baptizing them
in the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything
I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.”
Again authority is given
to build the kingdom
Evangelism
Ministry
Missions
Authority over enemy
Defense against flaming darts
Temptations to sin
Or curses
Discern and confess temptation
Do not allow yourself to agree
Raise the shield of faith
Calling on Jesus
Shift attention from sin to Him
Bind and silence the enemy
Do not give ground
Verbally rebuke the enemy
In the name of Jesus
Reject the dart
Examine opening in self to attack
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you
except what is common to man.
And God is faithful;
he will not let you be tempted
beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted,
he will also provide
a way out
so that you can endure it.
Often attacks by enemy at night
Feeling of dark presence
It will leave in Jesus Name
Assaults in ministry
Personal weakness
Know yourself well
Curses versus blessing
Pray blessings: self and others
Physical symptoms
Sudden pain or sleepiness
Most often physical cause
Diminished devotional life
Slowly eroding time in prayer
Distraction from time in Word
Being, too busy for devotions
Divisiveness
God loves diversity
He commanded we love
The enemy is divisive
He wants us to be critical
Discouragement or depression
Do not make decisions
When depressed
David’s example hope praise
Excessive Fear
Take authority in Jesus Name
Rebuke fear and the enemy
Thanksgiving to God
Deception
Source of Salvation
Revelation of truth vs lies
Concerning power
Conscience inner compass
Moral compromises
Entertainment sex violence
Rebellion and pride
Bitterness / unforgiveness
Covetousness / comparing
Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys
of the kingdom of heaven;
whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth
will be loosed in heaven.”
Our testimony defeats the enemy
Revelation 12:11
They triumphed over him
(the accuser)
by the blood of the Lamb and
by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so
much as to shrink from death.
Prayer for removing oppression
In Jesus Name may The Holy Spirit
Convict me of sin
Confess sin
Renounce sin
Receive forgiveness / cleansing
Holy Spirit bring light on enemy
In authority bind and silence
Ask The LORD to remove enemy
Send to the abyss.
Biblical example of deliverance
By the disciples
Command
No yelling
No drama
Just use the authority and name
of Jesus Christ.
Acts 16:16-18
Once when we were going
to the place of prayer,
we were met by a female slave
who had a spirit by which
she predicted the future.
She earned a great deal of money
for her owners by fortune-telling.
She followed Paul
and the rest of us, shouting,
“These men are servants
of the Most High God,
who are telling you
the way to be saved.”
She kept this up for many days.
Finally Paul became so annoyed
that he turned around
and said to the spirit,
“In the name of Jesus Christ
I command you
to come out of her!”
At that moment the spirit left her.
SUMMARY
So as you come closer to Jesus
And you are filled with Holy Spirit
You may experience
Spiritual Warfare from the enemy
Be alert to the schemes
Resist the enemy so he will flee
But do not focus on the enemy
Our focus is always on Jesus
And the Holy Spirit
And building the kingdom
Thru
Evangelism
Ministry
Missions
Evidence of the enemy
Deception divisiveness
Distraction Discouragement
Condemnation
He will discourage prayer
He will discourage Bible Study
He will discourage ministry
He will discourage evangelism
You sing
How beautiful is Your Name
How excellent is Your Name
You could also sing…
How POWERFUL is Your Name
We have Power from Jesus
We have Power from The Spirt
We have Authority in Jesus Christ
Given to disciples and us
Given in Great Commission to us
Given to bind and to loose
Authority and Power in the Name
To stop fiery darts of temptation
To stop assaults in ministry
To overcome oppression
Other things for protection:
Put on the armor of God
Which is Jesus Christ
Specifically
ask God for His protection
Take every thought captive
To Christ
We have victory in Jesus
We are more than conquerors
Romans 8:37-39
No, in all these things
we are more than conquerors
through him who loved us.
For I am convinced that
neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future
nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us
from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Biblical example of deliverance
By the disciples
Acts 16:18
Paul turned around
and said to the spirit,
“In the name of Jesus Christ
I command you
to come out of her!”
At that moment the spirit left her.
Declaration not Prayer to God
A command to the enemy
and his other fallen angels
“Paul said to the spirit.”
No yelling
No drama
He used the authority
And the Name of Jesus Christ.
So go in confidence
To the work God has called you
He will empower you to witness
He will protect you from enemy
He will give you power + authority
To resist temptation and
to route out oppression
He will give you a testimony
To defeat the enemy
